Pine Creek Lake Bass Tournament

Members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club competed in a bass tournament at Pine Creek Lake on Saturday, June 11.  Both the weather and the fish cooperated for a change.  The day started off with cloudy and cool with light rain in some areas of the lake but skies cleared quickly and warmed to the low nineties by weigh-in.  The lake was 4.5 feet above normal and slowly rising. Catching keeper bass was not too difficult as eighteen of the twenty-four anglers that were entered caught their club limit of five bass.

The club’s next activity will be the annual fish fry held during the Antlers Homecoming celebration.  Any member that is able to help out is urged to attend.  Members will start gathering at First Bank Park sometime around 3:30 or so on Saturday, June 18, to start getting cookers ready to fry fish.

The club’s next bass tournament will be held on Saturday, June 25, at Sardis Lake.  Fishing times will be from “safe light” until 3:00 p.m.  Launch site for the tournament will be the Sardis Cove boat ramp.

Husband-Wife Bass Tournament: 6-4-2022

On Saturday, June 4, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held their annual Husband-Wife Bass Tournament at McGee Creek Lake.  Couples did not have to be husband and wife but did have to be a male & female team to compete.  The day started off cool with temps in the sixties and a light breeze but quickly warmed up to the low eighties with a brisk breeze.

To say the fishing was tough would be an understatement.  Catching a bass of any size proved to be quite difficult.  There were no limits caught and two teams were unable to boat a single keeper. The team of Don and Sherry Deems won the tournament with a stringer weight of 3.14 pounds. Josh and Paige Johnson finished in second place with a stringer weight of 3.08 pounds.  Finishing in third place was Jim and Sherri Sallee.  They had a stringer weight of 2.77 pounds.  The big bass of the tournament was caught by Billy Latham.  It weighed 1.74 pounds.

In the ladies big bass division, Paige Johnson took top honors with a bass weighing 1.17 pounds.   The second place big bass caught by the ladies weighed 1.06 pounds and was caught by Sherry Deems.  Finishing in third place, with a bass weighing .86 pounds, was Amanda Cripe.  Sherri Sallee placed fourth with a bass that weighed .68 pounds.  Karlie Hensley took the fifth and final place with a bass that weighed .67 pounds.  Each lady will receive a plaque at the club’s next meeting.

The club’s next event will be a bass tournament on Pine Creek Lake.  It will be held on Saturday, June 11, at the Little River South boat ramp, aka, Rock Creek ramp.  Gates to this area are not opened until 6:00 a.m.  Starting time for the tournament will be as soon as we can get in and get everyone unloaded. The tournament will end nine hours later.  This is a club tournament and is open only to club members.  Open enrollment into the club is closed for the remainder of the year.  Anyone wishing to become a member may attend a monthly meeting and request membership.  Membership will be accepted if passed by a sixty percent majority vote of members present.  The club’s next meeting will be on Thursday, June 9, at the Wildlife Heritage Center & Museum.  Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m.
