Sardis Lake Bass Tournament and Top Ten Update

On Saturday, August 22, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held a bass tournament on Sardis Lake.  The lake was still falling from the release of flood water, but was only about 7 inches above the normal lake level.  The weather was quite nice for August with fairly mild temperatures and a brisk breeze.  The only bad thing about the weather was a strong thunderstorm that rolled across the lake at about 1:00 p.m. forcing anglers to seek cover from the high winds and heavy rainfall.  Two anglers had their boats damaged by the high waves as they picked up their boats and crashed them down on rocks or stumps.  However, we are thankful no one was injured.

Seven anglers were able to catch their limit of six fish over the fourteen inch minimum length limit.  Jon Tucker won the tournament with the heaviest stringer weighed in.  His six fish limit weighed 14.81 pounds.  Chuck Beck finished in second place with a stringer weight of 14.50 pounds.  Judd Thomas came in third with a stringer weight of 14.34 pounds.  Chuck Beck caught a bass that weighed 4.28 pounds to win the prize for the biggest bass of the tournament.
The club’s next bass tournament, which will also be the last regular season tournament, will be held on September 12, at Hugo Lake.  Fishing times for the tournament will be voted on at the club’s monthly meeting on Thursday, September 10.

Sardis Lake Tournament, Ramp Update

We will be having a bass tournament at Sardis Lake on Saturday, August 22.  Fishing times will be from "safe light" until 3:30.  We were scheduled to use the Sardis Cove boat ramp but this ramp will not be opened until the 24th of August.  We have been cleared to use the Narrows boat ramp instead.  I have been warned to watch out for the massive potholes in the road leading to the ramp.  The high water has caused damage to the roadway.  Be safe and I will see you there.

McGee Creek Results & Top Ten Update

Members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held a bass tournament on Saturday, August 8, at McGee Creek Lake.  The weather for the tournament was hot, even for August, with early morning temperatures in the mid-seventies and the afternoon high reaching over one hundred degrees.  The hot temps did not keep the fish from biting though.  Over half the anglers in the tournament had their six fish limit.  However, no one was able to catch a bass over the 16 to 22 slot limit that is imposed on McGee Creek Lake.

Johnie Ivey won the tournament with a six fish stringer that weighed 6.90 pounds.  Ellis Silvey came in second with a six fish limit that weighed 6.55 pounds.  Billy Latham finished in third place with a six fish limit weighing 6.18 pounds.  The big bass of the tournament was caught by Ellis Silvey.  It weighed 1.78 pounds.

The club’s next bass tournament will be held on Saturday, August 22, at Sardis Lake.  Launch site for the tournament will be the Sardis Cove boat ramp.  Fishing times for the tournament will be voted on at the club’s monthly meeting.  The club will meet on Thursday, August 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Wildlife Heritage Center and Museum.
