February Meeting date changed.

MEETING DATE CHANGE:  The February meeting of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club will fall on Feb. 14, Valentine's Day.  In order to keep our members out of the doghouse with their ladies, we will meet one week earlier on Thursday, February 7.  The meeting will still be held at the Wildlife Heritage Center and will begin at 7:30. So members, take your ladies out for a nice Valentine's Day dinner (and I'm not talking about Sonic) and keep them happy so you can start fishing on March 9.  Our first tournament is on McGee Creek.  Times will be set at the February 7 meeting.  Also, plan on attending the Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday, March 2, at the Antlers High School Cafeteria.

January Meeting Highligtts

JANUARY MEETING HIGHLIGHTS:
Members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held their monthly meeting on Thursday, January 10. Officers and board members were elected during the meeting. All 2018 officers were re-elected to their current positions. They are: Billy Latham, president; Judd Thomas, vice-president; Billy Henlsey, secretary; Ellis Silvey, treasurer. Board members were also elected. They are Eugene Hensley, Kaleb Hensley, Randy Janoe, Craig Bartlett, Forrest Cave and Kindel Holiman.
Rules pertaining to club membership were also discussed and voted on. The main points are that open enrollment in the club will end each year at the conclusion of the Big Bass Rodeo. Also a “guest” may fish with a member after open enrollment as long as they pay a $5.00 temporary membership fee as well as the tournament entry fee. After open enrollment is closed, a person may request membership by attending a meeting. A membership may then be approved by a super majority vote. Certain other stipulations apply. Full details can be found on the club’s web page or at the end of this article.
Members who entered the club’s fall deer contest and were successful had their antlers measured to determine winners. For the deer rifle season contest, Billy Latham captured first place honors with Judd Thomas placing second. In the deer primitive firearms contest, Billy Latham won first with Billy Hensley taking second place. The deer archery season contest was still ongoing at the time of the meeting. Archery season ends on January 15. Billy Hensley was leading the contest as he was the only member that had been successful so far.
The Annual Awards Banquet has been set for Saturday, March 2. It will begin at 6:00 pm at the Antlers High School Cafeteria. The club’s 48th Annual Big Bass Rodeo has been set for April 27-28 at Pine Creek Lake. The Club’s first bass tournament of the season will be held on March 9, at McGee Creek Lake. UPDATED MEMBERSHIP RULES: 1-10-19
MEMBERSHIP:
SECTION 1:
A: There will be no limit on the number of members in this organization unless a number is reached that is deemed sufficient by the majority, at which time a constitutional amendment must be introduced to close membership and a system approved for replacing with new members and any who resign or disqualify themselves as a member under the rules stated herein.
B: Open enrollment of membership will begin on February 1. Dues may be paid before February 1 but membership status will not begin until February 1. Designated membership dues may be paid at the January meeting or any time thereafter until the end of the club’s Big Bass Rodeo that is typically held in April. Open membership will close after the end of the Big Bass Rodeo. If the Big Bass Rodeo has to be postponed to a later month, then membership dues must be paid by the last day of April.
C: A club member may have a “guest” fish with them in a bass tournament any time after the closing date to join the club. The “guest” must pay designated entry fees as well as a temporary tournament fee of $5.00. The guest will not be able to join the club until the following season and must do so according to guidelines set forth in Section 1:B. A guest angler is not eligible to be entered in the Top Ten Standings or to fish the Top Ten Tournament.
D. Anyone seeking membership into the club after the close of open enrollment may attend a club meeting and request being accepted as a member. If this is done, a current member must make a motion to accept this person and it must have a second to the motion, also made by a current member. At this time, members will vote on accepting the membership of this person by secret ballot. A super majority of 60% of club members present must vote to approve membership request for the person to be granted a membership. If less than 60% vote for approval then the membership will not be granted. If membership is approved, current membership dues must be paid PLUS $5.00 per missed tournament up to the current date. This is the Top Ten Prize pot money that has been paid by other members fishing tournaments up to this point. Example: If six bass tournaments had already been held, then the new member would owe $30.00 in addition to the regular membership fee. ($5.00 X 6=$30.00).
