Top Ten Standings after Noon to Noon Tournament...

Noon to Noon Bass Tournament

Members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held their Annual Noon to Noon Bass Tournament on McGee Creek Lake.  The twenty-four hour tournament began at noon on Saturday, June 27, and ended twenty-four hours later at noon on Sunday, June 28.  A weigh-in was held at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday night.   After weigh-in, members could return to the lake and continue fishing or go home and then return at their leisure to complete the tournament.  The stringer weights from both days were added together to determine the contestants final weight for the tournament.

Billy Latham won the tournament with a stringer weight of 12.05 pounds.  Eugene Hensley finished in second place with a stringer weight of 10.13 pounds.  Ellis Silvey finished in third place.  His stringer weighed 7.44 pounds.  A big bass prize was awarded for both days.  Billy Hensley had the big bass on Saturday. His bass weighed 2.15 pounds.  Eugene Hensley had the big bass on Sunday with a bass weighing 1.63 pounds.   None of the anglers were able to catch a bass that was over the slot limit of sixteen to twenty-two inches although several members reported catching nice bass that were in the slot limit and had to be released.

The club’s next bass tournament will be held on July 11, at Sardis Lake.  Launch site for the tournament will be the Sardis Cove boat ramp, if the ramp is open by that date. If not, other arrangements will be made.  Check the club’s website at www.pushcountysportsmanclub.blogspot.com for current information about the club and its evens.  Fishing times for the Sardis bass tournament will be voted on at the club’s monthly meeting on Thursday, July 9. Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. and are held at the Wildlife Heritage Center and Museum.

Noon to Noon Bass Tournament
& Other Club News

Once again, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club volunteered their time and fish cookers to fry fish for the Annual Pushmataha County Homecoming Celebration.  Members Billy Hensley, Kaleb Hensley, Eugene Hensley, Billy Latham, Terry Thurman, Martha Hensley and Jon Tucker fried fish and hushpuppies for the event.  Member Mike Burrage dropped by to be the official “taste tester”.  Approximately two hundred fifty people were served at the event.  All proceeds from the fish fry went to the Pushmataha County 4-H Club.

The club’s next event will be the annual Noon to Noon bass tournament.  The tournament will take place on June 27-28 at McGee Creek Lake.  Launch site for the tournament will be the Buster Hights boat landing.  As the name suggest, the tournament will begin at noon on Saturday and will end at noon on Sunday.  A weigh-in will take place Saturday night.  After weigh-in, anglers may return to the lake and continue fishing, unless they had a limit of bass, or go home and return at their leisure to finish the tournament.  Anglers that weigh six fish on Saturday night cannot return to the water until midnight or later.  The final weigh-in will take place at noon on Sunday.  The stringer weights from both days will be added together to determine winners.

The club’s next monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, July 9, at 7:30 p.m.  Meetings are held at the Wildlife Heritage Center and Museum.

Pine Creek Tournament Canceled

The bass tournament scheduled for June 13, on Pine Creek Lake has been canceled due to the extremely high lake level.  A motion was made at the club's monthly meeting on Thursday, June 11, to move the tournament to Sardis Lake at the Potato Hills South Ramp. The lake was still over seven feet above normal but the ramp at Potato Hills South had just recently been re-opened.   The motion, however, failed to pass.   The club's next tournament will be the annual noon to noon bass tournament that will be held on June 27-28, at McGee Creek Lake.  Club members will also be volunteering their time and fish cookers to cook fish at the Pushmataha County Homecoming on Saturday, June 20.  All members are encouraged to come join the fun and lend a helping hand.

Husband-Wife Bass Tournament Results

On Saturday, June 6, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held their annual husband & wife bass tournament and fish fry.  The event took place at McGee Creek Lake.  The lake was approximately eighteen feet above normal level and slowly falling.  The weather was warm and humid making for a very warm day.  These conditions made catching quality bass difficult.
The team of Billy and Martha Hensley took first place honors for the heaviest stringer weighed in.  Ellis and Gail Silvey finished in second place.  Third place stringer was won by Don and Sherrie Deems.  The biggest bass of the tournament was caught by Chelsi Thomas.  After all fish had been weighed, anglers were treated to a fish fry with all the trimmings.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the food and the fellowship.

The club’s next bass tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, on Pine Creek Lake.  This may have to be canceled or rescheduled due the high water at the lake.  At the time of this writing, all boat ramps and camp areas are closed due to the high water.  This will be discussed at the club’s meeting on Thursday, June 11.  The club meets at the Wildlife Heritage Center and Museum at 7.30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. Any changes to the club’s schedule will be posted on the club’s website by Friday morning.
