We were not able to secure a permit for our bass tournament scheduled for Sardis Lake on May 7. All ramps had already been reserved. In order to make sure we were able to get a permit, the dates for the May 7, tournament on Sardis and the May 21, tournament on Hugo had to be switched. We will now fish Hugo Lake on May 7, and fish Sardis Lake on May 21. Permits have been secured for these dates. A copy of the revised tournament schedule is shown below.

2016 Bass Tournament Schedule
Members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club approved their 2016 Bass Tournament Schedule at their monthly meeting held on December 10. Dates are subject to permit approval. A copy of the schedule is shown below.
Friday, December 4, 2015
December Meeting
Members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club will meet
on Thursday, December 10. Meetings are
held at the Wildlife Heritage Center and Museum and begin at 7:30 p.m. There
will be several items on the agenda and members wishing to have input on those
items should attend. Also, anyone
interested in joining the club is welcome to attend. Membership dues are $15.00 per year.
One of the main items on the agenda will be the planning
of the 2016 bass tournament schedule.
The schedule is planned now so permits may be obtained in January for
the year’s events. The club usually
hosts 13 regular season bass tournaments with two to three specialty bass
tournaments. Dates for these events will
be determined at the meeting. A sample schedule will be posted on the club’s
website at www.pushcosportsmanclub.blogspot.com
for viewing before the meeting.
Also on the agenda will be the nomination of club
officers and board members. The election
for these offices will be held at the January meeting.
Listed below are the available week-ends for bass tournaments in 2016. This proposal is similar to our last year's schedule. Main changes are one less tournament on McGee Creek and one more tournament on Pine Creek. Suggestions and changes will be made at our December meeting.

Top Ten Tournament
Anglers started the tournament with cool temperatures, cloudy
skies and moderate rainfall. The rain
continued until noon. These conditions
may have contributed to a good day of catching fish. Eight of the nine anglers had their six fish
limit of bass.
Judd Thomas won the tournament with a six fish limit
weighing 22.00 pounds. Kaleb Hensley
came in second, also with a six fish limit, that weighed 17.77 pounds. The big bass of the tournament was caught by Chuck
Beck. It weighed 4.16 pounds.
This tournament concludes the bass fishing season for the
club. Members will now focus on the
upcoming deer seasons. The club holds a
contest for each season; archery, primitive firearms, and rifle season. Prizes will be awarded for first and second
place in each season based on a measurement of the deer’s antlers. Members are reminded that entry fees must be
paid before a season begins. Entry fees
can be paid at Silvey’s Tax Service.

Hugo Lake Bass Tournament & Top Ten Standings
Members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held their
last regular season bass tournament of 2015 on Saturday, September 12. The tournament was held on Hugo Lake. The weather cooperated nicely with mild
temperatures that were slightly below normal for this time of the year. Most anglers reported catching small bass,
under the fourteen inch minimum length limit, all day long. Bass over fourteen inches
proved to be a little more difficult to catch.
However, a few anglers were able to bring in some impressive stringer
weights. Seven anglers were able to catch their limit of six bass.
Winning the tournament was Johnny Ivey. Johnny had a limit of six bass that weighed 20.75
pounds. Ellis Silvey finished in second
place with a stringer weight of 17.63 pounds.
Billy Latham took third place honors with a stringer weight of 15.22
pounds. The big bass of the tournament
was caught by Johnny Ivey. His bass
weighed 4.88 pounds.
The club’s final bass tournament will be the Annual Top
Ten Tournament, which will be held on Saturday, September 19. This tournament allows the top ten anglers of
the year to compete against each other in one final tournament. The top ten anglers of 2015 are, from number
ten to number one, Jon Tucker, Chuck Beck, Mike Burrage, Terry Thurman, Billy
Hensley Johnny Ivey, Eugene Hensley, Judd Thomas, Billy Latham, and Ellis
Silvey. Members will meet on Thursday,
September 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Wildlife Heritage Center and Museum. Those wishing to enter the Top Ten Tournament
must attend and pay their entry fees at this time. If they are unable to attend, they must make
arrangements for someone to pay their entry fee for them. If a Top Ten angler is not able to compete in
the tournament, their position will be filled by the next angler in line for
this positon. Up to five wildcard
positions may also be filled by anglers that have not missed more than two bass
tournaments during the year. After all
entry fees have been paid, those entered will vote on which lake will be fished
for the tournament.
With fishing season coming to an end, members will now
turn their attention to deer season. The
club holds a contest for each of the three deer season; archery, primitive
firearms and regular gun season. Members
must pay their entry fees for the contest before a season begins. Entry fees are $7.00 per season or $20.00 for
all three and can be paid at the meeting on September 17, or at Silvey’s Tax
Service. This will be the club’s last
meeting until December.
Top Ten Standings: 2015 Final
Sunday, September 6, 2015
September Meeting
Members will vote on fishing times for the club’s last
regular season bass tournament. The
tournament will take place on Saturday, September 12, at Hugo Lake and will
launch from the Frazier Creek boat ramp. The results from this tournament will
finalize positions for the Annual Top Ten Tournament that will be held on
Saturday, September 19. The anglers with
the top ten total weights for the year, along with up to five wild card
positions, will compete against each other in this tournament. The “top ten” meeting will be held on
Thursday, September 17.
This will also be the last regular monthly meeting before
deer archery season begins. Those
members wishing to enter the club’s deer archery contest, or any of the other
deer season contest, can pay their entry fee at this meeting. The club holds a contest for each of Oklahoma’s
three deer seasons; archery, primitive firearms and rifle seasons. Entry fees for the contest must be paid
before a season begins. First and second
place prizes are awarded in each category based on measurements of a deer’s
antlers using the Boone and Crockett scoring system.

Sardis Lake Bass Tournament and Top Ten Update
On Saturday, August 22, members of the Pushmataha County
Sportsman Club held a bass tournament on Sardis Lake. The lake was still falling from the release
of flood water, but was only about 7 inches above the normal lake level. The weather was quite nice for August with
fairly mild temperatures and a brisk breeze.
The only bad thing about the weather was a strong thunderstorm that
rolled across the lake at about 1:00 p.m. forcing anglers to seek cover from
the high winds and heavy rainfall. Two
anglers had their boats damaged by the high waves as they picked up their boats
and crashed them down on rocks or stumps.
However, we are thankful no one was injured.
Seven anglers were able to catch their limit of six fish
over the fourteen inch minimum length limit.
Jon Tucker won the tournament with the heaviest stringer weighed
in. His six fish limit weighed 14.81
pounds. Chuck Beck finished in second
place with a stringer weight of 14.50 pounds.
Judd Thomas came in third with a stringer weight of 14.34 pounds. Chuck Beck caught a bass that weighed 4.28
pounds to win the prize for the biggest bass of the tournament.
The club’s next bass
tournament, which will also be the last regular season tournament, will be held
on September 12, at Hugo Lake. Fishing
times for the tournament will be voted on at the club’s monthly meeting on
Thursday, September 10. TOP TEN STANDINGS

Sardis Lake Tournament, Ramp Update
We will be having a bass tournament at Sardis Lake on Saturday, August 22. Fishing times will be from "safe light" until 3:30. We were scheduled to use the Sardis Cove boat ramp but this ramp will not be opened until the 24th of August. We have been cleared to use the Narrows boat ramp instead. I have been warned to watch out for the massive potholes in the road leading to the ramp. The high water has caused damage to the roadway. Be safe and I will see you there.

McGee Creek Results & Top Ten Update
Members
of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held a bass tournament on Saturday,
August 8, at McGee Creek Lake. The weather
for the tournament was hot, even for August, with early morning temperatures in
the mid-seventies and the afternoon high reaching over one hundred
degrees. The hot temps did not keep the
fish from biting though. Over half the
anglers in the tournament had their six fish limit. However, no one was able to catch a bass over
the 16 to 22 slot limit that is imposed on McGee Creek Lake.
Johnie
Ivey won the tournament with a six fish stringer that weighed 6.90 pounds. Ellis Silvey came in second with a six fish
limit that weighed 6.55 pounds. Billy Latham
finished in third place with a six fish limit weighing 6.18 pounds. The big bass of the tournament was caught by Ellis
Silvey. It weighed 1.78 pounds.
The
club’s next bass tournament will be held on Saturday, August 22, at Sardis
Lake. Launch site for the tournament
will be the Sardis Cove boat ramp.
Fishing times for the tournament will be voted on at the club’s monthly
meeting. The club will meet on Thursday,
August 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Wildlife Heritage Center and Museum.

Pine Creek Tournament & Top Ten Standings
On Saturday, July 25, members of the Pushmataha County
Sportsman Club held a bass tournament on Pine Creek Lake. Eighteen members braved the one hundred
degree heat and high humidity to compete in the event. The extreme heat did not discourage the fish
from biting however, as half of those fishing had six fish limits and it took a
stringer weight of over twenty pounds just to place in the top three positions. The lake was close to the new “normal” level
since the water level has been lowered due to repair work being done on the
lake dam.
Most
members were able to catch several keeper bass as well as a lot of fish under
the fourteen inch minimum length limit that were caught and released. Trenton Tollett won the tournament with a
stringer weight of 20.88 pounds.
Finishing in second place was Shawn Barnett. Shawn had a stringer weight of 20.55
pounds. He also had caught the biggest
bass of the tournament with a fish weighing 6.02 pounds. Billy Latham came in third with a stringer
weight of 20.14 pounds.
The
club’s next event will be a bass tournament on McGee Creek Lake. The tournament will be held on August 8 at the
Buster Hight boat ramp. The tournament
will begin at “safe light” and end at 3:30 p.m. Remember to check the club’s
website at www.pushcountysportsmanclub.blogspot.com
to keep up with club activities and to check for updates on upcoming events.

July 25 Bass Tournament Change
Our bass tournament that is scheduled for July 25, on Hugo Lake has been moved to Pine Creek Lake. The project manager for Hugo Lake has informed me that he did not expect any boat ramps on Hugo to be open by the 25th of July. Therefore, we are going to plan "B". I have contacted the Corps Office at Pine Creek Lake and secured a permit for us to have our tournament there. We will launch from the Little River South ramp (aka Rock Creek ramp). Fishing times will be from 6:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Sardis
Lake Bass Tournament
July
11, 2015
On Saturday, July 11, members of the Pushmataha County
Sportsman Club held a bass tournament on Sardis Lake. The temperature for July
was fairly moderate, warming into the low nineties. Anglers had to contend with a stiff breeze,
which is quite typical for Sardis Lake, and mostly sunny skies. The lake was
just over six feet above normal level. Only two anglers were able to catch a
six fish limit while most had trouble locating and catching keeper bass in the
flood water.
Judd Thomas was the first place winner. Judd had a stringer weight of 16.17
pounds. Judd also caught the biggest
bass of the tournament with a bass weighing 6.39 pounds. Billy Latham finished in second place with a
six fish limit that weighed 15.10 pounds.
Ellis Silvey, also with a six fish limit, came in third with a stringer
weight of 13.25 pounds.
The club’s next event will be a bass tournament on Hugo
Lake. The tournament is scheduled for
July 25 and will launch from the Frazier Creek boat ramp. Fishing times will be
from “safe light” until 3:30 p.m. At
this time the ramp at Frazier Creek is closed due to high water. Hopefully, it will be open by the tournament date. Check the club’s website at www.pushcountysportsmanclub.blogspot.com
for updates. If the ramp is not
available, updates for the tournament will be posted on the site.
The club meets the second Thursday of each month at 7:30

Heritage Center and Museum. If you are interested in joining the club, please
feel free to attend a meeting.

members reported catching nice bass that were in the slot limit and had to be
released.
The club’s
next bass tournament will be held on July 11, at Sardis Lake. Launch site for the tournament will be the Sardis
Cove boat ramp, if the ramp is open by that date. If not, other arrangements
will be made. Check the club’s website

Pine Creek Tournament Canceled
The bass tournament scheduled for June 13, on Pine Creek Lake has been canceled due to the extremely high lake level. A motion was made at the club's monthly meeting on Thursday, June 11, to move the tournament to Sardis Lake at the Potato Hills South Ramp. The lake was still over seven feet above normal but the ramp at Potato Hills South had just recently been re-opened. The motion, however, failed to pass. The club's next tournament will be the annual noon to noon bass tournament that will be held on June 27-28, at McGee Creek Lake. Club members will also be volunteering their time and fish cookers to cook fish at the Pushmataha County Homecoming on Saturday, June 20. All members are encouraged to come join the fun and lend a helping hand.

Husband-Wife Bass Tournament Results
On Saturday, June 6, members of the Pushmataha County
Sportsman Club held their annual husband & wife bass tournament and fish
fry. The event took place at McGee Creek
Lake. The lake was approximately
eighteen feet above normal level and slowly falling. The weather was warm and humid making for a
very warm day. These conditions made
catching quality bass difficult.
The team of Billy and Martha Hensley took first place
honors for the heaviest stringer weighed in.
Ellis and Gail Silvey finished in second place. Third place stringer was won by Don and
Sherrie Deems. The biggest bass of the
tournament was caught by Chelsi Thomas.
After all fish had been weighed, anglers were treated to a fish fry with
all the trimmings. Everyone seemed to
enjoy the food and the fellowship.
