Members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held a bass tournament on Saturday, August 22. The tournament was held on Sardis Lake. Fourteen anglers participated in the event.
Anglers were
prepared to fish under a heat advisory with a forecast high temperature of 104
degrees but a steady cloud cover kept the temperature down to the mid to upper eighties
until the cloud cover broke at about 2:30. It was also an unusually calm day on
the lake. Sardis is known for its stiff breezes. Ten anglers were able to catch
their limit of five bass. Most reported catching several bass, although fairly
small.
Forrest
Cave won the tournament with a stringer weight of 15.62 pounds. Forrest had a bass over six pounds and one
over four pounds to anchor his stringer. Ten year old, Sawyer Parker placed
second with a stringer weight of 14.46 pounds. Sawyer caught a bass that weighed 8.27 pounds
to win the big bass of the tournament as well. Jim Armstrong finished in third
place with a stringer weight of 10.39 pounds.
The
club’s next and final regular season tournament will be held on Saturday,
September 12, at McGee Creek Lake. Launch site will be the Buster Hights boat
ramp. Fishing times will be from safe light until 4:00. Immediately after the tournament, the top ten
anglers will vote on the lake to be fished for the top ten tournament that will
be held on Saturday, September 19.
