Twenty-one members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman
Club competed in a bass tournament on Saturday, June 9. The tournament was held on Pine Creek Lake. The weather cooperated with mild
temperatures, overcast skies for the first half of the day, and light
breezes. Catching keeper bass was
difficult early in the day but picked up by noon. Most anglers reported catching more bass
during the middle of the day.
Almost all the anglers were able to catch at least one
keeper bass with ten anglers catching their limit of six keepers. Ellis Silvey won the event with a six fish
limit that weighed 21.93 pounds. Terry
Thurman took second place with a six fish limit weighing 18.66 pounds. Terry also had the big bass of the tournament
with a bass weighing 5.25 pounds. Rick
Barriger finished in third place, also with a six fish limit that weighed 17.46
pounds.
The club’s next activity will be the annual fish fry held
during the Antlers Homecoming celebration.
Members volunteer their time, fish cookers and propane to help with the
event. The club has performed this
service for over 35 years. Any members
that can help are urged to attend. The
homecoming fish fry will be held on Saturday, June 16, at First Bank Park.
The club’s next bass tournament will be held on Saturday,
June 23, at Sardis Lake. Fishing times
will be voted on at the club’s monthly meeting.
The next meeting will be Thursday, June 14. Meetings are held at the Wildlife Heritage
Center and begin at 7:30 pm.
