Noon to Noon Bass Tournament: 7-28/29-2024

Sixteen anglers competed against each other in the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club’s Annual Noon to Noon Bass Tournament held on McGee Creek Lake.  The twenty-four hour marathon began at noon on Saturday, July 27, and ended twenty-four hours later at noon on Sunday, July 28.  A weigh-in was held at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday night.   After weigh-in, members could return to the lake and continue fishing or go home and then return at their leisure to complete the tournament.  The stringer weights from both days were added together to determine the contestants final weight for the tournament.

The weather was nice for this time of the year, with temps in the low 90’s and a steady breeze on both days.   The lake level was about four inches below normal with water temps ranging in the low to mid-nineties. Catching quality bass proved to be difficult for most of the contestants. Ten anglers caught their five fish club limit on Saturday.   Sunday was a little tougher with seven anglers catching their limit of five bass.

Billy Hensley won the tournament with a total stringer weight of 25.03 pounds.  Billy also had the big bass of the day on both days of the tournament.  He caught a 7.78 bass on Saturday and a 5.63 pound bass on Sunday.  Forrest Cave finished in second place with a stringer weight of 16.82 pounds.  Terry Thurman took third place with a stringer weight of 15.90 pounds.

The club’s next bass tournament will be held on Saturday, August 10, at Pine Creek Lake.  Launch site for the tournament will be the Lost Rapids boat ramp.   Fishing times will be voted on at the club’s monthly meeting that will be held on Thursday, August 8.

Hugo Lake Tourney: 7-13-24

The Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held a bass tournament on Saturday, July 13, at Hugo Lake.  Fifteen members braved the heat to participate in the event.  The lake level was just about six inches below normal level, and this made the water very shallow at the Frazier Creek Boat ramp.  The weather was hot and humid with a light breeze most of the day.  The breeze did offer some relief from the heat.  Catching a quality size bass was difficult for most.  Small bass were easier to catch with all but two anglers catching a limit of five bass.

Ellis Silvey managed to catch a limit of bass that weighed 12.76 pounds to win first place in the tournament.  Jim Armstrong finished in second place with stringer weight of 12.68 pounds. Randy Janoe took third place with a stringer weight of 10.66 pounds.  Forrest Cave caught the big bass of the tournament.  It weighed 3.37 pounds.

The club’s next event will be the annual Noon to Noon bass Tournament on July 27-28, at McGee Creek Lake.  As the name suggest, the tournament will start at noon on Saturday and end at noon on Sunday.  A weigh-in will be held Saturday night at 9:00 p.m.  Launch site for the tournament is the Buster Hights boat ramp. Anglers that have a limit of fish are thru fishing until 12:00 midnight.  Anglers that do not have a limit may continue fishing after the weigh-in.  Anglers may leave the lake after weigh-in and return at their leisure to finish the tournament.
